I`ll be gone til November
I`ll be gone til November
And give a kiss to my mother.
Hola mi amigos y amigas!!!!! It`s time for this week`s session. So who`s up?
Just the man that is on course to break the single season sack record.
From United, we bring you...Mr Maurice Davis.
Ok young man. Let`s start from the beginning.
How did you get into the flag game?
md - Well honestly I have been around it for some years. My brother and several friends play and have been playing. It just never excited me until RCFFA, and my church decided to put a team together.Once I started playing, I loved it. Now its a hobby. We played in RCFFA until the league stopped, after that we formed a combined team from the league titled UNITED,and joind CVFA.
pg - Sounds good.
How has the team gelled so far?
md - Thus far we have gelled very well. We have different talents and skill levels. Some veterans,as well as some rookies. All and all we have a universal team.
pg - Sitting at 3-3 right now, you guys have a chance to finish above .500 and make some noise in the playoffs. How are you approaching the next 2 games?
md - am approaching them with the mindset "we can`t lose". I am very determined to reach the championship. As long as everyone does their part,we will be fine. ONE GAME AT A TIME...........
pg - For you, more specifically, it has been one SACK at a time this season.
You sit at the #1 spot for total sack this season (14). And with 2 games remaining, the record (currently held by Knightz` version of Jared Allen-Nate Kurtz) is clearly in reach at 16.
Let the people know your age and talk about your breakout season.
md - Well, I`m only 30. People tend to think I`m older because I grayed early. Just to clear the record as of week 7, I tied with Nate at 16 for the season. I had 14 as of week 5 going into the game with the raptors, in which I obtained 2 more putting me at 16. I take pride in the D-line.I feel that it starts and ends with us upfront. If I can get pressure on the QB to disrupt the play, either he will make a bad decision or turn the ball over.I have realized how much of a difference is made when the QB has no-time. Gettin pressure on the QB can ultimately change the game. I have gained momentum, game after game, sack after sack. Its almost like a shark in water when he smells blood..... He ATTACKS! When the ball snaps....I ATTACK!
pg - Nothing wrong with going gray. It beats the alternative. Just ask the Commish!
And clearly, it doesn`t have any adverse affect on your game!
Records were made to be broken. And looks like you will be the man to do it.
Any prediction on what the final number will be?
md - I plan to break it and set the new record out of reach. I don`t know what it will be, but come sunday there will be a new record. "With God all things are possible."
pg - You heard it here first, folks.
Sounds like you are ready and determined to me.
Any final thoughts for the CVFA faithful?
md - "GO HARD,OR GO HOME". Thanks Petey for this opportunity,See you at the game!
pg - There you have it folks.
Once again...Ole Petey bringing you the movemakers and the record breakers.
Salute to United`s Maurice Davis.
Any questions?

Late.
Hey HEY hey.
What`s happening?!?!?
At this moment, it`s the Knights. Still undefeated. The last of the Mohicans.
Amd with that, we bring to you one of their playmakers...on both sides of the ball.
CVFA: Meet Michael Jabs.Knights top playmaker, #9.

Let`s get straight to the point. The Knightz are rolling right now. Fresh off a run to the title game last Spring and undefeated in the Fall to this point. To what do you credit the recent success?
mj - As most people know, the Knightz have been around for a while, but a few of us joined last Fall and it just took a little bit of time for every one to realize where they fit in. Our QB, Tim, started playing with us last Winter and we just follow him on offense. Defensively, it all starts with the pressure we can put on the opposing QB with our line.
pg - Pressure busts pipes. True indeed.
Word is you are a big part of what happens on defense.
Add to that, you seem to be Tim`s #1 target.
What do you see as your role/contribution in this?
mj - Like I said, it all starts with our line on defense. They force the QB in to some tough throws and all of us DBs take advantage of that. I like to match up with team`s top receivers when I can and I`m not the most imposing person out there, so it leads to teams testing me a little.
On offense, of course I want the ball every time, but the plays I get the most pleasure from is when I can get defenses to key on me and leave our other receivers open for big plays.
pg - Unselfish. That`s the way to do it.
So who is the biggest competition for the unbeaten Knightz this season?
mj - We always play CMB close and depending on who shows up for DRD they have a lot of athletes that will be tough for us to run with. I`m not sure how playoffs and everything will be set up, but of course we are looking forward to the chance to play teams like Brute Squad and Go Bots. I hope we can get to the point where we can show we are a top team in the B league and can play with the teams in the A.
pg - Who is the best player in the league?
mj - I could tell you a lot of players that think they`re the best in the league, but honestly, I don`t pay enough attention to the stats or what other players are doing outside of when they play us. I think there are a lot of great athletes in this league and that is one of the main reasons I like being a part of it.
pg - Yeah. Everybody is the man if you ask them.
So who is the best player wearing a headband?
Nevermind.
Any parting shots for the CVFA family?
mj - I have a to give a shout out to the Richmond Fire player that made me look stupid in coverage twice (a few weeks back). Its always good to have a reminder that I`m not nearly as fast as I think I am. To everyone else, I appreciate the opportunity to come out and compete every week. I`m a relatively calm and easy going person, but Sundays are my time to be loud and borderline obnoxious (maybe not so borderline depending on the game). Outside of one year of middle school football I had never played in any organized league until I got into flag, so I enjoy the chance to learn from all the awesome athletes we have in this league.
One final shout out to everyone that makes the CVFA run the way it does.
pg - And run it does. Run this city.
Thanks to Michael Jabs of the Knightz.
Back on the scene
crispy and clean...
CVFA Family!!! Did ya miss ME!!!!???????
Fresh off a quick visit to the county clink, but they couldn`t hold ole Petey for too too long.
But enough about me.
Yall know how we do it, so let`s get into it...
Fresh off a 3-0 start to the season, the newly built Toughspects are more than the usual (did you see what I did there? I know...I missed me too).
One of the leaders of the new look combo of Built Tough and the Usual Suspects is our interview subject today.
Without further adieu, I`m bring to you...
Toughspects Co-Captain, #3 Jay Hargrove.
pg - Toughspects huh?
How in the world did these 2 totally different squads come together? And why?
jh - Well, both teams were diminishing in numbers, but core players at key positions still remained. Coming from Built Tough, we`ve always been able to score points but we struggled on Defense. My older brother used to QB The Suspects and I already knew some of their players. I also knew their Defense has always been solid. Merging the two teams just seemed to be a perfect fit. Thus far, the chemistry has been great. We just are trying to build some continuity at this point.
pg - Great point about the Built Tough O and the Suspects D.
Best of both worlds indeed.
Talk about the additional firepower on O. I know QB Mark is having a field day with all of the weaponry available.
jh - True indeed Mr. Greene. Being a person who was in the military, I have a great appreciation for quality weaponry, lol. By the way, special shout out to all the troops.
But to answer your question, guys who are used to having to do a lot, aren`t required to do as much every game in order to win. This takes the pressure off of the receivers and Mark at QB as well. It also keeps the defense honest and you really can`t load up on 1 particular person.
pg - Shouts to the troops are always welcome in Petey`s neighborhood. Always.
So the O is on point. What about the defense?
Marvin Dabney #1, league leader in tackles, is like a young Ray Lewis out there. How is the TS defense stacking up?
jh - To be honest, the Defense is where we are strongest. We have a host of guys who are committed to doing what It takes to win. Even if that means sacrifice all the glory that comes with playing offense. Marvin is doing a great job with our personnel and scheme.
pg - So we mentioned the defensive leader and the qb...what about the young soldier that is you..?
You have been mvp, league leader in receptions and probably some other things I just don`t know about. Gimme a short bio on yourself.
jh - Well I`m a person of few words and many actions. I`m not big on individual accolades but its cool to get recognized sometimes.
I love comedy, hip hop, R&B, sports, and all things Chicago...Go Bears, Bulls, and White Sox!! I consider myself a leader and a team player. I graduated from Monacan High in 2000 and VCU in 2006.
I`m a husband, godfather, brother, uncle, son, and coach among other things.
Currently I teach 6-8 grade at Wilder Middle in Henrico County and mentor at risk youth.
I love to compete and I don`t make excuses. Bottom line..."I hate to lose because I love to win."
pg - In other words, "I`m a grown ass man, dog." - Cedric the Entertainer
Salute.
Well since you are a man of few words, I will let you slide after just one more topic:
Season ends. Will the Toughspects be on top of the standings?
If so, why? if no, why not?
jh - Confidence has never been an issue for me so I`d say...YES. We`re hungry and eager to prove our worth and be considered an elite team in a very competitive league.
There are a lot of good teams and great players in the CVFA. We`re just proud to be apart of the best league VA has to offer.
pg - I wanna thank my guest, Jay H from the Toughspects.
Tune in next time as Petey kicks it with the best and brightest the CVFA has to offer.
They tried to slow us down
without a doubt
but then October came
they let young Petey out!!!!!!!!!!!!
